BOTOX® FAQs
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
How does it work?
Will I look overdone or unnatural?
The procedure is very technique-sensitive, designed to provide subtle results when administered by a licensed, trained medical expert. You will still look like you – just with less noticeable lines. In fact, it won’t be obvious you had anything done at all.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic only for women?
Of course not! We know that men care about their appearance too, and in the last three years alone, more than 1 million treatments have been administered to men. Most say their top priority is eliminated crow’s feet, followed by forehead lines then frown lines.
Should I be over 40 before using BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Age is not a factor – the severity of lines is. Many plastic surgeons have seen a rise in treatments for patients even in their early 30’s. Everyone is different – if your lines bother you, talk with a doctor and schedule a consultation to determine if treatment is right for you.
Does treatment hurt?
Some patients have described BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments feeling like a pinch, but if you are worried, talk with your doctor about using topical numbing cream to alleviate discomfort.
How long does the treatment last?
For those with moderate to severe frown lines, results will last up to 4 months. However, results will vary from patient to patient, and goals should be discussed with your doctor to determine your next appointment.
How many injections should I expect?
Because each treatment is customized, the number of injections will be determined by your physician. For crow’s feet, three areas of the muscle around the sides of the eyes will receive injections. For frown lines, five injections will be administered into the muscles between the brows and the forehead. For forehead lines, five injections will be given in the muscle in the forehead.
Are there side effects to BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Side effects are rare, but have included eyelid drooping, eyelid swelling, brow drooping, dry mouth, discomfort or pain at injection site, tiredness, headache, neck pain, eye problems, double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, dry eyes, or allergic reactions. Please read the Important Safety Information and Medication Guide available on the BOTOX® Cosmetic website for more details.
